On a Trip with a Rockstar Pink DVD

Good morning my lovelies! For your viewing pleasure today I have a lovely purple manicure with pink glitter french tips. I've had every one of these colors for a few months now, but I'm so happy I finally got around to using them. As you can probably see, there was some shrinkage from the time I painted them last night to the time I took the photos this morning.

Wet n Wild Megalast "On A Trip", Sally Hansen HD "DVD", and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear "Rockstar Pink".

The base color is "On A Trip" from Wet n Wild's Megalast collection. It's a purple creme. Their Megalast collection has what Wet n Wild calls a Manicurve Pro Brush. It's very wide and flat. From what I've read on other blogs I think I'm in the minority, but I really like the wide brushes, and at the very least I prefer my polish has a flat brush versus a round brush. The Wet n Wild Megalast collection is available at most retail stores for $1.99.

On top of the purple base I put "DVD" from Sally Hansen's HD collection. It's a metallic purple with blue shimmer. I loved the color the second I saw it in the bottle, but when I got home and swatched it, it turned out to be very, very sheer. As it turns out, pretty much the whole HD collection works best as layering polishes. I've seen some manicures on other blogs where they are layered over black, and they all look wonderful. What I like about layering it over the "On A Trip" is that they're the same shade of purple, so I get that wonderful bottle color in the opaque I'm looking for. I got this one at Walgreens. It's been awhile, but I think it was $6.

I couldn't resist the urge to add some glitter, so I did french tips with "Rockstar Pink" from Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear. It's a lot of pink glitter, with a little bit of purple, red, blue and gold glitter. You can buy this one just about anywhere for $1.99 as well.

Dizzy Mizz Lizzy

Good morning everyone! Today I only have one bottle of nail polish to show you, but oh what a good one it is! This is Dizzy Mizz Lizzy from Enchanted Polish. Enchanted Polish is an independent nail polish maker. http://www.facebook.com/EnchantedPolishPage I also need to give props to Llarowe and her birthday sale last month, where I purchased this beauty. :) http://www.shop.llarowe.com/ The above photo is two coats in natural light with no flash.

Dizzy Mizz Lizzy is my first "indie" polish. As you can see from the above macro shot, there's a lot going on in this polish. It has a holographic pink/red jelly base with large red hex glitter, medium gold and turquoise hex glitter, small red and gold square glitter, and silver bar glitter. It's one of those polishes that I find myself staring at when I'm supposed to be doing other things. <g>

Very bling-y!

Zoya Charla... with Bling!

Hello everyone! I'm back from my mini-vacation, and I finally have a new manicure to show you. After a very brief (and small) Facebook fan poll, I decided on Zoya's "Charla" as my base color. Charla is a gorgeous teal/turquoise metallic shimmer, with a hint of gold shimmer. I just love metallic teal polish-I'm starting to get quite the collection of it! :) Charla went on nice and smooth and dried quickly.

The nearest place to me to buy Zoya polish is from Ulta, and I can't remember what it retails for (I know it's not cheap!), but I got mine for one cent with my Copius.com credits! :)

Charla is pretty "bling-y" by itself, but on top I layered "Trust Fund Baby" from the Spoiled by Wet n Wild line. Trust Fund Baby has small turquoise and gold hex glitter and small black and purple square glitter in a clear base. This color would look great layered on top of so many colors. The Spoiled line is available exclusively from CVS and retails for $1.99, but sometimes goes on sale for 99 cents!

Sunspots

Daylight without flash.

Indoor light without flash. The orange isn't nearly as bright in this picture.

This week I wanted to do a fun, sunny manicure inspired by all the great neon colors out there right now. I picked my sunny yellow for the base color, and picked up a couple inexpensive neons for the color spots. Both Sinful Colors and Spoiled by Wet n Wild retail at $1.99, and they often go on sale for $.99.

The yellow is probably not the greatest color for my skin tone, but I like it anyway. I love how bright and fun these colors are, and how casual the lopsided dots are. Excuse my flooded cuticles... I thought I had cleaned up better than this, but it seems to be more noticeable in the pictures. :-/

Designated Driver, Summer Peach, Tip Your Waitress, Snow Me White, Permission to Proceed.

The base color is called "Designated Driver", and it's from the Spoiled by Wet n Wild line, available exclusively (I think) from CVS. The green and pink are also from Spoiled by Wet n Wild. The green is called "Permission to Proceed" and the pink is "Tip Your Waitress". The white and orange are made by Sinful Colors, available at Walgreens. The white is "Snow Me White" and the orange is called "Summer Peach". I think possible both the pink and the orange would have also made great base colors for this manicure.

Kleancolor "Firework" over Nicole by OPI "Iceberg Lotus"

Happy Memorial Day!

This week's manicure features what I call "messy glitter french tips." Not messy in a bad way, but on purpose. The random nature of the glitter is perfect for free-handing the french tips without using french tip guide stickers.

The base coat is called "Iceberg Lotus" from Nicole by OPI. It's a gorgeous teal shimmer, but it took three coats for full opacity. Luckily it dried quickly. It also has a hint of duochrome in it. Some lights bring out a bluish/purple color, but I couldn't get that to photograph. If I recall correctly, I bought this one at CVS. I have a few other polishes in the metallic turquoise/teal family, and several polishes in shades of metallic blue. What can I say, they're my favorite colors. :)

For the glitter tips I used "Firework" by Kleancolor. It has a clear base with red, gold and turquoise hex glitter, as well as small gold square glitter. This glitter looks great over SO MANY nail polish colors. Kleancolor isn't sold in my area, so I purchased this in a set of other Kleancolor polishes from an eBay seller. I think "Firework" is one of the best ones from the set.

Nicole by OPI "Iceberg Lotus" and Kleancolor "Firework". You can kind of see the duochrome of the Iceberg Lotus in this picture.

Of course, to make it smooth over the glitter I have two coats of Seche Vite on top. Altogether that makes 8 coats of polish at the glitter tips! (Two coats of base, three of the turquoise, one thick coat of glitter, and two of topcoat.) Something I've read about in other blogs and have noticed myself is that the Seche Vite causes some shrinkage of the polish. Not every polish, but definitely glitter polishes. With this manicure it's really obvious on my pinky. I haven't had a problem putting it over cremes.

O.P.I. Just Spotted the Lizard!

Isn't this a gorgeous color? This is "Just Spotted The Lizard" from O.P.I.'s new Amazing Spiderman Collection. Please excuse the paint on my cuticles, as this is before I did my clean up. But really, this applied so nicely that there wasn't a whole lot of clean up to do. It was mainly just that middle nail. Just look at that duochrome, color-shifting yumminess!

As many of you probably know, Just Spotted the Lizard is a dupe for Chanel's "Peridot." I've wanted that color for months, but I can't justify spending Chanel prices, so O.P.I has made me very happy. I've read that there is also a dupe from Jessica Cosmetics, but those aren't sold in my area.

Well, I tried to take my manicure a step further and added some Kiss Nail Art stickers, but I really think I should have left well enough alone. The color was so nice by itself. What do you think?

The top photo was taken in the evening light, and the bottom photo was taken in the morning light, so that's why the coloring appears different in the two photos. This color does different things in different lighting!
